Self-empathy through visual expression

Overview

Most of us live in our heads. We push through the day and rarely stop to feel what the body is carrying underneath it all.

This is a small, quiet space to come back to yourself.

You will use simple art and your own body to notice what you feel, and what you need. No art skill needed. Just you, some paper, some colour, and a little honesty.

It is gentle. It is slow on purpose. And by the end, you will hold a practice you can return to on any hard day.

Concept Note

We start with the body, because the body speaks first.

You will map your sensations onto paper. Where things feel tight, warm, heavy, light. Colour, line, shape, whatever wants to come out. There is no right way to do this.

Then we give those sensations names. Feelings.

Then we listen one layer deeper, to the need sitting under each feeling. This is the heart of self empathy. You learn to meet yourself first, before you ask anyone else to.

You share only what you choose. Nobody is here to fix you. You are here to hear yourself, maybe for the first time in a while.

Who Is This For?

This workshop is especially curated for Kelab YSD-Kakiseni Junior’s Train-the-Trainer Incubation participants, consisting of school teachers and practicing artists.

What Will You Learn?
  1. To tell a sensation from a feeling, and a feeling from a need.
  2. To read your body instead of pushing past it.
  3. To name what you feel without judging it.
  4. To find the need under the feeling, and meet some of it yourself.
  5. To notice how feelings move and pass, like weather.
